Sometimes an all over design really is what a quilt needs. This one is blooming feathers, an Anne Bright pantograph.
For Helen
This beautiful batik quilt was made by Helen for a friend in hospital. I wanted to quilt something cheerful and organic that would soften the piecing lines slightly. I thought of echoed flowers, with hearts as some of the centers to reflect how much love she is surrounded by.
Little did I know she collects items with heart themes so the quilting couldn't have been more perfect. This one really made me feel privileged to do what I do!
For Katie and Peter
This is a wedding quilt for my sister's friends. Unusually I'm starting with the back of the quilt. They're quite a retro, minimalist couple, but we needed to work their initials and the date in, so on the back they went. It's quite a contrast to the subdued front!
This was freehand quilted with a combination of swirls and graphic elements. I love the technique of breaking up the background into fractured tiles. It makes it possible to add slight variations in the fill without it looking strange!
There are 2 hears quilted somewhere in all the swirls. I wonder how long it will take Katie and Peter to find them!
The Denyse Schmidt scroll
This one I made for me, or more than likely for the hubs and the dog to snuggle under on the couch. I quilted it with one of my favorite all over patterns ever, the iconic Denyse Schmidt infinity scroll. It's just such a great design!
Word Play
This one is fresh out of the dryer and off to the hospital - it's a charity quilt from my local guild. I decided that what is better than to welcome a new baby with all the wonderful things he or she will grow up to be. Silly, playful, happy, smart, loved. This would be such a fun way to commemorate other special milestones - a graduation, wedding, birthday. I can't wait to do more of these!
Simple Meander
Nancy brought me this wonderful quilt, destined for a 3 year old's first big boy bed. With all the wear and tear it will get over the years we decided the best route to go with the quilting was an overall meander. I hope he loves it as much as I loved my first quilt!
